Journalist Pelagie Nanji has been appointed Attaché to the Senate Cabinet following a decision signed on July 25, 2026, as part of a broader reorganisation.
The reshuffle includes appointments across technical, protocol and administrative services.
The appointment comes months after Aboubakary Abdoulaye was elected President of the Senate on March 17, 2026, succeeding Marcel Niat Njifenji, who had led Cameroon’s upper house since its inauguration in 2013.
A long-serving senator for the North Region and the Senate’s First Vice President before his election, Abdoulaye has begun shaping his administration through a series of appointments to key positions within the Presidency of the Senate.
Nanji joins the Senate Presidency after a career spanning parliamentary reporting, public communication and professional media leadership.
Before her appointment, she served as Chargée d’Études at the Ministry of Communication.
She joined Cameroon’s corps of public service journalists after successfully passing the national competitive examination in 2020.
She has contributed to several official publications, including the Daily Journal of the 18th Commonwealth Parliamentary Association Africa Region Conference hosted by the Parliament of Cameroon in Yaoundé in 2023.
She has also contributed to government communication through publications of the Ministry of Communication (MINCOM).
Beyond her institutional communication work, Nanji has played an active role in advancing the journalism profession.
She serves as National Financial Secretary of the Cameroon Association of English-Speaking Journalists (CAMASEJ), where she contributes to the Association’s governance and professional development initiatives.
She has also undertaken national assignments on behalf of the Association, including supervising chapter elections.
Her appointment brings a communication professional with extensive experience in parliamentary affairs and public service into the Office of the President of the Senate. She adds to the new Senate President’s efforts to constitute the team that will support the leadership of Cameroon’s upper legislative chamber.
