Yaoundé, Cameroon – April 24, 2025: The Camer Today News Project (CTNP) is excited to announce the opening of entries for the VIIMMA CTNP Excellence Award, an initiative designed to recognize and support emerging journalism talent in Cameroon. In partnership with the Victoria International Media Merit Awards (VIIMMA), this new category celebrates outstanding journalism students and provides them with valuable career-building opportunities.
Organised by the Cameroon Association of Media Professionals (CAMP), VIIMMA is a prestigious annual event that honors journalistic excellence. This year, through Camer Today’s News Project, the student category seeks to bridge the gap between journalism education and professional practice by offering young journalists the recognition, practical experience, and tools they need to excel.
“This award is more than just a competition; it is a launchpad for aspiring journalists. We are committed to giving students not just recognition, but the resources and experience to kickstart their careers,” said Bizel-Bi Mafor, Coordinator of the Camer Today News Project (CTNP).
The Camer Today News Project is going further by equipping winners with essential journalism tools and a month-long internship in a reputable media house, for real newsroom experience. Tarhyang Enowbikah Tabe, Executive Director of CAMP noted that this initiative marks a major step in nurturing the next generation of journalists: “By combining industry exposure, mentorship, and material support, we are setting a new standard for how student journalists are prepared for the field.”
Entries are now open for the CTNP Excellence Award for Best Feature Story, which recognises outstanding storytelling and in-depth journalism by student reporters. This year’s themes are:
- The Anglophone Crisis
- Climate and Environment.
One winner and one runner-up will be selected in each category. The winners will receive journalism starter kits and internship placements, while runner-ups will receive certificates of recognition and opportunities for future mentorship through the Camer Today network. Journalism students with compelling unpublished stories are encouraged to submit their best work (800-1,000 words) before May 31, 2025, 10:00 PM GMT+1.
All awards will be presented at the VIIMMA Awards Ceremony, with the official date to be announced in the coming weeks. For press inquiries, partnerships, or further information, contact:
