South West champions Kumba City FC kicked-off their MTN Elite Two promotion race with an emphatic 3-1 victory over Diamant FC of Yagoua in their first game of the 2025 National Interpool.
The South West champions raced to an early lead against their Far North Region when Ventoline Wafou found the breakthrough barely eight minutes into the game.
But Diamant FC did not give up without a proper fight. They pressed hard for an equalizer and were rewarded at the 22 minutes from a Nouhou Mazou equalizer.
Despite finding their way back into the game they fell behind before the break when Kumba City FC regained the lead after Gibel Pento Muh converted his penalty eight minute to halftime.
Kumba City FC increased the pressure in the second half and eventually sealed the win in the final stages of the game through Enow Nkar.
The win means Kumba City FC are level on points with Sable of Batie who edged Olympic of Meiganga 2-0 in the tournament opener on Monday September 1. The team is on standby on matchday two.
The other member of pool A, Mintack FC of the Centre Region, was on standby.
The National Interpools is taking place in Yaounde until September 14. The 10-club competition will see the top two clubs earn promotion to the MTN Elite Two next season.
