Open letter to ENEO Cameroon

Dear Eneo Cameroon General Manager,

I write to you with a heart that bleeds with dissatisfaction. For the past years, electricity has been a luxury for the inhabitants of Buea, South West Region.

The situation has deteriorated to the extent that residents go months without power. The absence of electricity disrupts daily activities and increases cost of living.

Living day by day is the most tedious aspect of family life. Most times, foodstuffs in refrigerators go bad. Business people incur losses during these times especially if they cannot afford standby plants at once. As a result, prices of goods are inflated to cover the cost of items which have gone bad within the periods of blackouts.

Mr Manager, it will interest you to know that students bear the greatest burden whenever this mishap happens. I wonder if that is a good look for a power supply company. In years, examination periods have gone on without students knowing how electricity looks like in their various areas.

Protests have been made and the situation seems to be resolved yet, goes back to how it was. It is disappointing that residents have to protest before they can enjoy basic amenities.

Keeping citizens in the dark when claims have been made to ensure a better life is disheartening. I wish that you could pay more attention to the deteriorating state of power in this section of the country.

Living conditions are already deplorable and not having electricity and going months or years without it sets hearts apart. Time and again, transformers go faulty. Residents decry the truant behaviour of the management as they argue that replaced transformers last only for weeks or a month and the cycle of blackouts continues.

How long are these citizens supposed to undergo this torture?

Oftentimes, they are forced to relocate to quarters that have seemingly stable power. Unfortunately, these quarters too become a problem.

Is fleeing from one area to the next a solution? People pay exorbitant rents, electricity bills yet, can barely enjoy the resources they pay for.

If truly you intend to turn your reputation around, you must act at once and put a smile on the people’s faces. Despite being a global concern, residents in Buea have undergone tedious phases of blackouts. It will be wise to introspect and see how your actions are frowned upon by the citizens of this nation.

I end this appeal on the note that we can be like other nations where stable electricity is not a surprise.

Yours faithfully,

OBA EBANGA.
